Furnace Creek

Location map

In an effort to bring in revenue, in 1927 a the Pacific Borax Company rebuilt its company worker's quarters at Furnace Creek Ranch into a resort and also built the Furnace Creek Inn.

The adobe bricks were built on site by Native Americans.

Cat-O-Nine Tails

As evidenced by the cattails you see here, a natural spring feeds water to both the Inn and Ranch sites. You can even find small fish in the creek all year.

Furnace Creek has become a year-round resort, even with its -200 foot elevation.

The Ranch site also contains the Borax Museum where you can see mining tools, a barn that housed the famous 20-mule teams, and various vehicles used for early transportation in the valley.
