Laughlin, Nevada is a gambling resort on the Colorado river just south of Davis Dam at the southern tip of the state. |
Davis Dam is an earth and rock-fill structure named for Arthur Powell Davis, former director of the Bureau of Reclamation. The $67 million structure was finished in 1953 and backs up Lake Mohave. |
A river tour runs between Laughlin and Davis Dam. The view from the boat gives excellent views of the Laughlin skyline along with close-ups of some of the unique casino designs. Probably the one casino that could be called the landmark of Laughlin is the Colorado Belle; designed in the shape of a very large river boat. | |
As the sun sets in the west, the view from Laughlin across the Colorado River shows vivid colors on the Arizona mountains.
