Because the train between Felton and Santa Cruz was not available, an extra day became available during this vacation. Since it was fairly close by I decided to travel up Highway 1 to San Francisco, tour the city a bit, have supper at Fisherman's Wharf, and come back to Santa Cruz via the inland freeway. |
There are many things to do in and around San Francisco; but to see the most I first drove up to Twin Peaks to get an overview of the entire city. A small panorama shows the city view from Twin Peaks. (Sorry, the big one is just too bandwidth intensive to post! So, instead, below I've picked three expanded views from the panorama.)
The Golden Gate (in the fog), Alcatraz Island, also in the fog is seen over the city and the civic center with the Bay Bridge in the background completes the expanded views.
The second base of operations was Fisherman's Wharf. To get another look at the city two cable car routes were taken: the Powell Street route was taken into the city and the Hyde Street route taken out of the city. Some random views of these routes are shown here.

At the base of Hyde Street is a floating museum: the Hyde Street Pier. There you'll find several old sailing vessels and a paddlewheel ferry; all representative of the types of ships that serviced San Francisco in the past. You may tour these ships.
It's a few block walk from the Hyde Street Pier to Fisherman's Wharf. Supper and a last look at Alcatraz Island from Pier 39 completes a short tour of San Francisco. |
That's the end of the tour. See here if you want More Info...
